Rotor Cranks USA, Q-Rings, Rotor System

I hit the gas when the countdown reached zero and my pursuit of a 2008 California State Time Trial Championship had begun. Since I had no time to get my computer working perfectly, I rode solely on feel; no heart rate, no cadence, no speed, and no power. And still I remained calm... after all, this bike won the Ironman World Championships! I quickly settled into my rhythm and marveled at the speed that the Transition carried. It was fast and smooth. I was thankful that it came equipped with Rotor Q-Rings since I use Q-Rings exclusively. I started picking off the guys starting in front of me and passed both my 30 second and minute man within the first 5 miles. I did it! California State Champ for the 30+ Category! I also posted the third fastest time of the day. Thanks to some hard work and a kick-ass Specialized Transition with Rotor Q-Rings, I am now the proud owner of a California State Champion's Jersey - Shawn Olin.

"Last Saturday I raced the Prairie Steamer Road Race over 120 km in the beautiful scenery of Cochrane. The course was nice and hilly and we had to endure a couple of rain showers during the race. With about 30 km to go I attacked the main field after climbing a long climb and bridged up to the early lead group together with Bob Veroba from Bicisport. The last 10 km were very hard and we had to defend a 30 sec lead on the main field. We lost 2 riders out of the lead group and I started the final hill with 2 guys from Bicisport but was able to win the sprint and take the win back home to Edmonton. Using my PowerTap in this race prevented me of blowing up myself when chasing the lead group and I tried to keep my wattage just above my threshold. My Rotor Rings gave me that extra punch needed to gap the main field and win the final sprint to take the win. - Tim Heemskerk"

May 2006 "Gary … Just an update on how the Q-Rings and Rotors are working…love them both. Just returned from Wildflower where I was able to improve on last years time and get 7th amature overall. Now on to Ironman CDA training. Thomas Liby - RotorCranks.com Team member"

I mounted the Q-Rings and used them for a very hard ride last night, another decent ride tonight. So far, so good. I mentally adapted to them within a half hour. Without a power meter, it is hard to quantify the change. That said, I went in to the ride yesterday with sore legs from lifting on Tuesday, about 1.5 hours of sleep Tuesday night (sick son!), and still managed to take my pulls and add a few attacks during the toughest group ride of the season. I'll attribute my success under those conditions to the cranks (Q-Rings), at least in part! This weekend is the first road race of the year, the somewhat infamous Cone Azalia Spring Classic http://midwestcyclinggroup.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=493). I'll be working to protect Ian and Andy, with big hopes to be there for a leadout at the finish. With the pros showing up, that may be racing for 5th place but it's still in the money and points. Fingers crossed for luck- no flats. Thanks for the opportunity to ride the Q-Rings- I'm looking forward to a good season on them. Best Regards, Randy Hermann

Just wanted to let you know I am sold on these Q-rings. You really notice them when you are drilling it like on a climb or in a sprint. I really feel like I am able to turn a faster cadence on climbs and I am actually going faster without any increase in heart rate. The following two links are of me this past weekend. This is from the Texas Masters State Criterium Championships. That's me in the black and yellow kit. I won the field sprint with ease for 2nd place in the 35+. There was one guy off of the front. The finish was on a climb also so it was an uphill sprint and the Q-rings were perfect. After that finish, a couple more of my teammates told me to get them some. I then followed that up with another 2nd place at our weekly crit series on Tuesday night. I have never finished better than 6th before that. Let me know when you get the 54t Time Trial ring in. I want one for my TT bike. I also have a couple of teammates that want the 54t also for their TT rigs. Thanks again, Robert Brown, 35+ TX Road Racer

I promised to report back on the Q-Rings but decided I'll wait until after my first race with it. By Tour D'Urban I had Q-Rings on for a week. It takes about 2 - 3 days to get used to it, but now I hardly notice it. As I have a Polar Power meter on my bike it was easy to see from the start that my power has gone up. From reading reviews and knowing how much the Q-Rings has helped Cashandra Slingerland with her time trials, the only concern I had, was how it would affect sprinting. But after taking both sprints this weekend in the race, I am convinced it also improves your power output while sprinting. Chrissie Viljown

"[Q-rings] ... they feel better when climbing than round rings, and soon after installing them I PR'ed most of my training hills. I really love them and don't think i'll ever go back to round [chainrings]"

"I'm very happy with my Rotors. I set a course record in the Yuma 20k (27:49) and in the 3 mile Mountain TT (9:13)."

"I'm quite a bit faster on the flats and climbing now that I ride and race with rotors. I recover much quicker from long climbs and tough sprints compared to my past standard cranks. The problem with a lot of guys here, is that they obsess about the weight of bike parts. They think that because the rotors weigh more than their present cranks, that they can't possibly be better or allow them to climb any faster. I can say however that I'm glad I found them."

2004 Ironman Wisconsin: "I'm very, very happy about my bike split. 70 of 2188 and 15 of 389 in my age group. HUGE improvements! I feel like I've moved up to the next level on the bike. I definitely feel like I'm capable of a 5:10 - 5:15 right now on a course of more normal difficulty and next year I think sub 5:10 is definitely in the cards. I have no wattage info to back this up, but I think the Rotors have absolutely helped. I'm very happy with them. - Jason"

"I went from a 318 watt average 10k time trial to a 351 watt average the very first time trying the rotors on my i-magic trainer. This product is not something that makes you faster by tricking the brain. It really works. I found my best setup to be increasing from a 53 tooth ring to a 56 tooth and setting the rotor calibration to most efficient acceleration / hill climbing rather than the forwardmost setting for more speed which requires even more leg strength."

I just wanted to let you know that we received the package a few weeks back, had a little delay getting them installed, but my wife is very happy with them so far. The results on our Computrainer show a significant increase in power output at the same heart rate. We'll get out on the road soon if we can get some decent weather and go for a long ride. - Alan

As with every bike I’ve owned in my life, I’ve made a number of changes to both of our trikes. I moved my Rotor Cranks from my recumbent bike to my GT5. I’d used the Rotors on the bike for about 1,000 miles, and then I rode the GT5 without them for a few hundred miles. When I installed the Rotors on the GT5 it was like “coming home.” I immediately noticed a reduction in pedal-steer (I know, if I was pedaling “correctly” I wouldn’t have pedal steer—I prefer the Ergonomic approach).

"I recently made the switch to rotors on my highracer and I am very happy with them. I've been riding seriously since I was 16, so I'm certainly not new to cycling. I'm also not typically considered to be slow. I am fairly new, however, to high BB recumbents. I'm a spinner on an upright and typically pedal in the saddle at 100+ rpms, but I've had alot of trouble getting my spin as smooth and powerful on the Aero as I'm used to on upright bikes. The rotors definately took care of that problem! I can finally climb a hill without slowly losing more and more momentum until I'm in the granny gear. A combination of going to rotors and finding a new technique for climbing has gotten me to the point that I'm climbing hills in the middle ring that used to reduce me to the granny. My average speed has gone up a couple of mph due to the climbing increases. Now I'm wondering how much rotors would help me on my upright bikes! -Eddie "

"I mounted Rotor this september after a 6 weeks stop due to an injurie (muscle fiber heavily broken in an abductor). I haven´t measured my times yet with a clock, but I´m faster, there´s no doubt about that. But the thing I love about rotor is recovery. I recover much better from one day to next, even after races or heavy trainings, so it allows me to train more and harder. That´s an important point for someone like me that compete. Also traction in my MTB hardail is much better" - D. Castro

"Installed Rotor Cranks (30/42/53) 170 crank length three weeks ago. Starting to see benefits after about 200 miles- definite improved acceleration and more power on hill climbs. Legs feel more fatigued."

"I've been riding with Rotor Cranks all year, and wonder how bad the knee would have been without them. I honestly believe that they are good for my knees. Dermid - Midland, Michigan"
